RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE encourages talents from around the world on any stage of their careers who attribute their oeuvre to Automatism, Biomorphism, Dada, Metaphysical Art, and Surrealism, offering them an opportunity to expand their audiences and open new opportunities

The mission of the RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE is unlocking and supporting the potential of talented artists. As well as to provide an opportunity for a wide audience to get acquainted with the works of contemporary artists whose oeuvre is attributed to the mentioned styles.

Biennale is dedicated to the exploration of the Universe of our consciousness, the phenomena of the inner worlds, and deep levels of the human consciousness through the visual arts, writings (essay, poetry, etc.) which make the hidden visible.

Along with the main exhibition RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE includes a variety of activities, such as artist’s talks, panel discussions, contests, interviews, and publications.

 

 

VENUE, VIEWING FROM AROUND THE WORLD, AND DATES

 

RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE will be held in the exhibition halls of the Railway Museum, Riga, Latvia, from May 9th to May 29th 2026. The artworks selected for Biennale along with all details also can be seen online from any place around the world at 3D Virtual version of the exhibition. The Virtual version will be available for viewing from May 9th, 2026, till May 30th, 2027. Viewers will be able to contact every participant directly.

RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE Opening will be on May 9th from 18:00 to 22:00. 

 

PROMOTION

 

RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE will be promoted on various channels: Web, social media, various Artspaces, Newsletters, Press, other publications, TV, and Radio.

 

ABOUT RIGA

Riga (Latvia) is destination that has thriving cultural scene and has a reputation of strong international tourist aim.  According to UNESCO Riga (Latvia) is regarded as one of the most successful Capitals of Culture. Riga was selected as the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2014. Riga downtown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today Riga is one of the most vibrant cities in the Baltics and a booming centre of the arts.

AWARDS

 

RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE issues a Certificate of Artistic Merit. The Certificate objective is the notification of the official recognition of the merit and artistic talent of participant. Also, artists participating in the Biennale will receive various awards, including monetary prizes and other opportunities.

PARTICIPATION

​​

RIGA CONTEMPORARY SURREALISM BIENNALE is an independent and self-financed art exhibition. For covering of its direct and indirect organizational costs such as: rental of the exhibition space with necessary equipment, advertisement, administration, curatorial and staff costs, publicity, 3D Virtual exhibition twin creation, etc. participants are asked to pay a moderate participation fee, depending on the space that an artist needs to show artworks: €875 for designated space 1m x 3m x 1m (5 linear meters) and €1,225 for designated space of 1m x 5m x 1 m (7 linear meters).

There are the following options of participation:

  • Participation in person (or partially in person, for example, during opening, closing, some days in between).

  • Absentee participation for those who will not be able to visit Biennale in person.

  • Any combination of a) and b).

APPLICATION PROCESS

​

We ask artists / artist’s representatives (galleries, art dealers, etc.) submit brief information about artist and up to 5 images of the artworks that in a best way represent an artist’s oeuvre at: contact@voyzxart.com or voyzxart@gmail.com .

Every submission will be juried by the Art Riga and the VOYZX Fine Art Project curators, and appointed art critics from AICA (Association Internationale des Critiques d’Art).

Selected artists will be informed about the results within two – tree weeks and Application forms will be submitted to artist / artist’s representative. Each form includes detailed information about participation and related issues that may arise.

The “early bird” discount of 15% for participation fee will be applied for Applications submitted by October 1st, 2025. The deadline for Application submission is January 31st, 2026.
